ABOUT ME

This is the part where I’m supposed to list achievements and carefully arrange my life into a series of facts that make me sound impressive. Unfortunately, most of my actual achievements are in the music industry, and my literary résumé currently peaks with winning a city-wide “What Freedom Means to Me” writing contest in the eighth grade.

I assume the Pulitzer committee simply lost my address.

So here’s the considerably less impressive (and much more boring) truth.

I’m a husband, a father, and a musician who spends an irresponsible amount of time with books. Eventually, reading them wasn’t enough to scratch a growing creative itch, so I made the perfectly reasonable decision to attempt the notoriously simple task of writing a novel.

It's going about as well as you would expect.

I built this site so you can follow along while I read books, talk about books, and slowly discover all the ways writing a book is different from having opinions about them. You are welcome to join me. Or not. It’s your life. I have very little authority here.

If you stick around, you’ll probably get book reviews, thoughts on whatever I’m reading, experiments in writing, occasional updates from the novel, and tangents that begin with a legitimate point before wandering into the woods and refusing to come home.

That’s about as “me” as it gets.

Well, that and the eighth-grade writing award.

I really cannot overstate how prestigious it was.
